You would think that after so many years I would finally "get it" that that is not going to happen.

We had a wonderful holiday full of family, fun and definitely food. It was just a nice time to hang out with those we love. We also were able to fly to Florida to see my parents. Can I just say how weird it is to see palm trees decorated for Christmas. It was just so odd. We were down there in the beginning of January on the beach in shorts. This was Adam's first time flying and he really enjoyed it. It was so neat to take a trip like this together as a family.

Now things are cold again and we are back to "real life". We don't know what 2009 holds for us. But we do know Who holds us in His hands. So we look forward to what the new year brings.

Till next time...

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!

We hope that all of you enjoy your holidays. Actually, it's been up for a little while, but I finally took a picture :) I must send out props to our friends Todd and Beth. This year they so graciously donated their artificial tree to MY "buy an artificial tree" cause. I emphasised MY because the boys have been fighting MY cause for years. After many years of vacuuming up fir needles and crawling underneath the trees to water them, MY cause has won! Now we can just sit and enjoy the beauty of the Christmas tree. After it was all said and done we were all happy. The boys love it and it is a beautiful tree!

Todd and Beth- thank you for contributing to our Christmas season. And we are glad to have you as neighbors! We are so very thankful :)

We hope that each of you have a blessed Christmas season. We are so thankful to be able to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Till next time...

First Snow!

Today we woke up and look what we found... snow! We couldn't believe our eyes. We haven't had snow in November for the longest time. Adam thought I was joking. Now we didn't have a huge snowfall, but the ground was lightly covered in white stuff. It made everything look so pretty.

Once again it was time for Adam's yearly tradition. He took off in the snow with his naked toes! He does this every first snow. I don't really remember when this started, but I do know that Adam was pretty small the first time. I'm glad he still likes to do it.

I don't know what this says for the rest of our winter season, but I'm looking forward to some more white stuff. We now have the perfect sledding hill in our backyard. So we need snow to put it to good use. I hope you all are staying warm and snugly (I know my parents are down in warm Florida:) Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Till next time...

Happy Fall (Again)!

I just had to share a few photos today. I have been looking outside for the past few weeks, enjoying all of the fall colors. I just happened to remember to take my camera out so that I could snap a few pix of the colorful trees in our yard. The drive up to our house has been so beautiful that I smile every time I make my way up the road. I love it when you are driving underneath the trees and the leaves are falling all around you.

I also wanted to share Adam's Halloween pumpkin. He carves his own pumpkin each year. This was the pumpkin he found at the pumpkin patch. He starts by making pumpkin face sketches on paper and then decides which one he wants to use. His pumpkin turned out really cute. We lit it up for our trick-o-treaters.

I have to say that this was my favorite Halloween so far. We had our first trick-o-treaters this year. I sent the boys out so that Adam could get his own candy and I stayed behind to pass candy out. It was so much fun. We had around 20 little ghosties come to our door. I know that doesn't sound like much, but I have been deprived for the past 12 years.

Anyway, now it is time to look forward to Thanksgiving (one of my favorite holidays). We've already seen a Christmas tree and wreath up at someone's home. I think that is jumping the gun a little bit. I like to savor the holidays and try not to rush them. I'm already starting to think of pumpkin and pecan pie, turkey, and all of the yummy candle smells that this holiday has to offer. I hope that each one of you enjoys the season. Take time to slow down and remember that no matter our circumstances we always have things to be thankful for.

Till next time...

The Pumpkin Patch

Each fall we have a family tradition of going to the pumpkin patch. This year was a little different because we chose a different patch to go to. Since we moved we needed to find a patch that was closer to us. We found one and it turned out to be so nice. The weather was absolutely beautiful. It was warm but there was a nice breeze blowing all day.

We started by taking a hay ride to the pumpkin patch.
We were there for a while trying to pick the perfect pumpkin. I think Adam found at least 6 perfect pumpkins. He finally settled on one. Our rule is that he can only pick a pumpkin that he can carry. Most of the time he pawns his pumpkin off on someone else but this year he handled it on his own. I must say that we picked some beautiful pumpkins.

Next we looked around the farm. There was a petting zoo, minature horse-drawn carriage rides, food, and
different vendors. I ended up standing in the kettle corn line for quite awhile. But the wait was worth it. There is nothing like old-fashioned kettle corn that came right out of the kettle. While I was waiting, Clif and Adam sat on some tractors, jumped on hay bales, and apparently enjoyed some cupcakes without me :) I think Adam also tried "milking" a fake cow that the farm had set up.

Once we had our kettle corn we took off through the corn maze. It was a lot of fun and we didn't get too lost. We missed a few turns, but we had fun. Over all the day was so much fun. The weather cooperated and the farm was absolutely beautiful. I can't wait to go next year! We hope you all are enjoying fall as much as we are. Fall is my favorite season. I love all of the colors, smells, and leaves. Now that we are in a new house I have found myself excited about decorating. So I decided to post a few pictures for those of you who are far away. I hope that this season will be a blessing to all of you inspite of all the uncertainty. I know that God is still in control and He will not change. That is something we can all be certain of. Blessings to you all!

The Birthday Boy

Today was Adam's 9th Birthday. We took out for his birthday on Saturday. He wanted to go bowling and then we went out for Chinese. We came back home and had a special "Birthday cake". Adam decided he wanted Monkey Bread for his Birthday cake. It was very yummy. I forgot to get Birthday candles so we put a tea light candle in the middle of the Monkey Bread.

Today he had to go to school and then I took him shopping to spend his Birthday money. Guess what he got. Legos of course. Maybe one day he might have too many Legos, but today is not the day. I made him his Birthday dinner which was Mini Cheeseburgers and Onion rings. They turned out really yummy.

Then we had him find his Birthday present from us. He got a real bow and arrows. He's been playing with a toy set that Clif had when he was little. Adam really wanted a real set and now he's got one. He has a really good eye for target shooting and started getting the hang of it. It started getting dark so he couldn't shoot for very long.

Over all this turned out to be a good Birthday for him. Adam is such a joy to us. We are so thankful to God for sending him to us. God teaches us so much through Adam. We enjoy watching him grow and change. He is so special and we look forward to what the next year brings.

This is a picture of Adam's first day of 4th grade. This summer has been a crazy one! I can't believe that it is almost over. We have had lots of fun to keep us busy. We've been to the beach, up to Maryland, and many other things in between. School begins in 4 days so I thought I better get some summer pictures up before another season begins.

The first pictures are of our trip to the Outer Banks.

This is the view from the front of our house. This was taken off of the top deck.

Here we have turned Adam into a fish. It's a family tradition to bury Adam atleast once during our beach vacation. Then we turn him in to something. One year he was in a race car and this year he was a fish.

Here is Clif and Adam playing in the waves. The waves stayed a nice size all week long.

Here is Adam being punished for being a bad pirate. We decided to try out a different mini golf place this year and it was a pirate theme. We enjoyed it. Mini golf is another family tradition each year.

Here's another tradition. Dig a hole as big as you can (atleast until you can see China). This was a moat in front the boys' sand castle. Adam could lay down all the way in it.

This is a sunset picture on the Sound side. This is one of my favorites.

Clify and Me!
Here we are outside of the North Carolina Aquarium.

Here's Adam in front of Grave Digger. This is something else we have done every year since we started going to the Outer Banks. We have taken Adam's picture next to Grave Digger to see how he has grown. The first time we took his picture Adam could sit inside the tire. Not anymore :)

We were also able to enjoy a visit with my family. We went up to Maryland and my sister and her family came too. This is Allie. She found my sunglasses and tried them on. Note the pacie in her mouth. It rarely came out, don't try to take it from her, and she could communicate amazingly well without ever taking it out :)

This is Noah. Him and Adam were attaching foam stickies to their chins and making them look like beards and goatees. He is full of energy and has an amazing sweet heart.

And this picture I had to add because Allie is wearing the outfit that I bought her. It was so much fun buying an outfit for a little girl. Boy's clothes are just not as much fun. It makes me thankful that we didn't have a little girl (or I would be broke)!

Well, that is all I'm going to do for today. I hope that each and every one of you enjoyed your summer and were able to relax. We look forward to what the next season holds. Until next time...

Beach Bums

We are on vacation this week. We are here at the beach and are enjoying every moment of it. I thought I would post a couple of pictures for now. I'll post more once we get back home. It has been a wonderful week of great weather, great food and great waves. We had one day of rain, but sometimes its nice to be stuck in the house. Rest and relaxation have been the theme of the week. The first picture of us was taken at the Whalehead Club. You can see the Currituck Lighthouse behind us. The second picture was taken in Clif and Adam's favorite tree. We have another picture of them on this tree from a couple of years ago.

Well, we have plenty of other pictures to post later. Friday, June 6th was his last day. It should have been Tuesday the 10th, but because of our long commute they gave us permission to skip the last 2 days of school.

This particular day was Greek day for the third graders. They all dressed up in Togas and ate Greek food. They even played some Greek games. Adam had fun getting his outfit together and he really enjoyed the day.

So Adam will begin his 4th grade year at a new school. He is adjusting well to our new house and neighborhood. He has a friend that lives right across the street who is in the same grade. They have become quick friends.

Adam is getting really tall and growing so fast. You must, as a parent, savor every moment because they go by so fast. He will be a teenager before we know it.

Till next time...

More Pics

Here are more pics of our new home.

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5206312622101303250" style="DISPLAY: block; This is the front porch of our new home. I will be posting more pictures, but I'm running out of time right now (I forgot my password:) We are very excited about our new home. We feel very comfortable here and we haven't really missed our old home. Adam loves the new house and has a new friend right across the street. Being in a neighborhood is a little different, but we really like it. I've been driving Adam to school each day so that keeps me in the car for at least 2 hours a day. I'll be glad when school is out!

Well, I finally got on to post pictures but now I'm out of time. I'll post as soon as I can get back on. We put our house on the market on March 1 and our closing date is May 16. Although this is a hard time for the housing market, God has provided miracles for us and has provided us with a new home. We are so excited but overwhelmed at the same time.

We will still be in the same city but on the other side of town. Adam will change schools next year, but I will drive him to school to finish out this year. The moment is bittersweet since this is the first home we owned and we have made many memories here. But we look forward to all of the new memories we make in our new home.

I will post pictures of the new house once we are in and have had time to settle in. It's been a long time since I've blogged. Things were a little busy around here for the first part of the year. I was working again (temporarily) but I'm now a free woman!
After I got out of work it was time to start working on our house. We decided to put our house on the market and see what happens. So the house is now on the market and we are just waiting. I will definitely post more about this as things happen.
This week Spring Break begins. Adam will be home and we have family coming down this week and next. We look forward to seeing everyone and spending time with them.
May God bless all of you this Easter season!
Till next time...

Our First Snow of the Year

We had our first snow of the year last Friday (the 21st). We were pleasantly surprised when we woke up. The forecast wasn't calling for snow in our area. It was so pretty and it wasn't too much. The roads weren't covered at all. But it made the landscape very pretty.

Adam has a tradition every first snow of the year. It was an outdoor wedding so it was chilly, but it turned out beautiful. They asked me to coordinate the wedding and I also did the wedding and groom's cake. So I have been a busy little bee this past couple of weeks. I was finally able to sit down tonight so I thought I would post some cake pictures. The pictures we took of the couple turned out too dark.

This is the main wedding cake. It was chocolate cake with white buttercream icing. The ribbon was a pretty wine color. This picture doesn't do it justice, but it turned out so pretty. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. The bride and groom were happy and that is all

that matters.

And this is the cake that was the best. I know it looks really creepy, but its a zombie. It's suppose to be creepy. The groom loves zombies so the bride wanted to give him a zombie cake for a gift. Corri, a friend from church, came over and helped sculpt the cake. She did such a great job. The hand actually looked real. The groom was so excited.

I had so much fun working on it. Everyone was so facinated with him. Everything is edible on it except a couple of toothpicks that are holding the eyeballs in.

Well, I'm tired now so I'm going to end this so I can go relax. I hope you enjoy the pics:)

Till next time...

The BIG One!!

Well, my hunter husband finally did it. He got a big buck. Clif went hunting in Goode, VA this past weekend. He landed a 9 pointer. This is his biggest buck yet. It looks like I'll either have antlers or a head in my house at some point :) He's very excited about this one. And this was his one and only chance to hunt this year. Apparently the bucks were really distracted on Saturday. Clif said that there was a lot of activity and he saw many does and bucks. (I posted the least graphic picture for those of you who are squeemish.)

Well, I just thought I would share that piece of news. We invited my mom and grandfather to ride along. But first I must share a picture of what I woke up to. I heard Adam calling for me so I went to look for him. When I found him he was stuck under this stack of stuff. He was using it as a tunnel, but the last time he tried to get through his tummy got stuck on the floor and I needed to help him out. I thought he was joking at first, but quickly found out that he really needed to help. Thankfully he's alright and he's not still stuck on the dining room floor.

So back to the farm. This is a picture of Popeye shooting the corn cannon. They were actually using apples at this point. The apples shot farther than the corn cobs. Popeye seemed to being enjoying himself. This was the first time he had shot a corn cannon, went through a corn maze, and had kettle corn.

Here's Adam picking out his pumpkin. Of course, he has to pick out the biggest one he can find. And guess who ends up carrying it!? It was such a beautiful day and we each enjoyed ourselves. We also went on a hay ride, had lunch and got lost in the corn maze. Oh, and we also saw some goats.

We were pretty much worn out after that. I went home and relaxed for the rest of the day. I'll have to post the picture of the pumpkin after the carving. We hope everyone is doing well and are enjoying the fall. Its going fast so enjoy every moment! He has grown up. His 8th birthday was a week ago and he had several friends come over for a couple of hours. They had a great time and spent most of it chasing each other with play guns. This picture was taken on Clif's hay ride :) :)

We had pizza and cream puffs (Adam's alternative to birthday cake). They played on the trampoline and we also played shoot the paintball on the deer (this was in place of pin the tail on the donkey). It was a really nice time and a beautiful day.

I took the carseat out of the car. It was really weird seeing that empty space. The carseat has been there for 8 years. It really made me stop and think of how grown up Adam is. I'm so glad I've been able to enjoy all of these years. They go by so fast. You have to cherish every moment. But as a mom I am looking forward to the future. I can't wait to see how Adam matures and what God does with him. Being a parent is such a rewarding experience!

Well, that's all for now. I just wanted to share Adam's special day with you. Till next time...

Back to Work

I finally started training for my new temporary job this week. Boy has it been a transition for me. It's been 7 1/2 years since I've had a regular job. I have enjoyed being at home with Adam but I will enjoy getting a paycheck :) A girl at Clif's work is getting ready to have a baby so I and another lady will be filling in for her while she is on maternity leave.

It's nice having something to do away from the house, but I'm afraid I won't be comfortable with everything until its time for me to leave (ha ha)! The job is very flexible and I have great hours so that I can be home by the time Adam is home from school. So we will see what happens. I just pray I don't make things worse instead of better :)

Peaks of Otter

This summer has been so hot and we have stayed indoors for most of it. This weekend was the first cool weekend we've had in a long time. So we decided that we would go hiking and enjoy the outdoors. We had a really nice time. The wind was blowing so we actually needed our jackets! This is a first for this year. We made it to the top and had a beautiful, clear view.

We saw lots of neat little bugs on our trip up, but we came away with one neat story from our trip. From the beginning of our hike Adam started picking up acorns and put them in his pockets. He was saving them for the top so he could carve in to them with his pocketknife. (I tell you this little piece of info because it will be important later:)

We got almost to the top where there is a fork in the trail. You can either go left and proceed up the mountain or you can go right to Buzzard's Roost. Well, as we approached this fork Clif told us to be quiet. And here is what we saw:

She was a pretty little doe who was just standing there eating some leaves off of the plants. Clif told us to be quiet so we wouldn't spook her. But the more we stood there we began to realize that this doe was not easily spooked. She was very curious and friendly!

She was so friendly that she actually licked Clif's hand! We stayed there for awhile to watch her and she ended up attracting quite a crowd from people who were coming up the mountain. We left and went up to Buzzard's Roost. Clif was shocked that this wild deer was so friendly and he wondered why the deer licked his hand. Well, we figured out that Clif had been picking up acorns and carving them in his hands. So the deer must have tasted the acorns on his hands.

This leads us to the part of the story where Adam's acorns come in. I remembered that Adam had his pockets full of acorns and wondered if the deer would eat them. All of the acorns were mostly down at the bottom of the mountain and we were at the top. So on our way back to the fork we saw the deer again. And this time there was another doe and 2 fawns near her. They weren't as friendly, but it was neat to see. So Adam pulls out his acorns and gives some to Clif (we wanted to make sure that the deer wouldn't bite so Clif went first, ha ha!)

We all ended up being able to feed her thanks to all of those acorns. And I must say that had we not had these acorns we would NOT have fed her human food! We figured that acorns were a natural food that these deer would eat anyway. By this time we had gathered a crowd and Adam had so many acorns that he started passing them out. The deer even licked people's arms to get the salt from where they were sweating. We walked away with all of our fingers and a neat story to tell. God gave us a special treat.

Anyway, we made it up and back in one piece. The view was beautiful and the day was gorgeous. We couldn't have spent the day anywhere better. We hope that this weather continues. I will close with one more picture. Until next time...

Thoughts on 30

I just had the privilege of turning 30 this past week. Wow! How time flies! I have to admit that a couple of months before my birthday I was having some apprehensions about turning 30. It hit me hard that I was leaving the 20s. I would no longer be young anymore. The comments about still being a baby would be coming to a close. I would no longer be "just out of High School".

Then after some prayer my opinion of my 30s changed. I didn't want to be depressed or worried about being 30. God reminded me of how many people have not made it to 30. That really hit home. I then became thankful for my years. We never know when our time is up. And instead of looking at age as a bad thing we must look at it with optimism. If we are still here on Earth then God is still using us.

So my birthday came and I enjoyed myself. I look forward to what my 30s hold. Turning 30 is not so bad anyway. It didn't hurt and my body didn't fall apart.

My birthday was a lot of fun. Clif's sister and her family were in for the week. My niece Jenna made me a beautiful birthday cake. This was such a treat because I'm usually the one making the birthday cakes.
On my birthday Clif took me over to Cracker Barrel where my parents and his parents were waiting there to surprise me. I didn't know my parents were coming in for my birthday. That was a special treat! We had a nice dinner and then enjoyed icecream cake later at the house (yum)!
So for all of you who are 29 and getting ready to take the big leap, don't be afraid! It's not that bad. And let this be a reminder to all of us who are still having birthdays...let's be thankful for every moment we have!
Till next time...

Kritter Kaos

For the past 11 years we have lived in the same house. And I would pretty much say that we are in the suburbs. Well, in the past few weeks I have felt like we have lived in kritter country.

One night last week Clif and I were watching tv and we kept hearing something that sounded like it was trapped in our duct work. I told Clif that he should go downstairs and listen to see if he could hear something running around. We were pretty sure it was a mouse. Clif got up and opened the door to the basement and I heard him scream (not a girly scream, I can assure you). Now, those of you who know Clif can imagine why I thought that he was trying to freak me out. Well, he was serious. When he opened up the door something came flying at him.

We figured out that we had a bat that had come in through the basement door. So we got our "bat catching" gear on (I'll post pics) and headed downstairs. Clif had a bucket in one hand with cardboard in the other to trap the bat. I had a broom and flyswatter in each of my hands. We went downstairs and the bat kept flying and it came pretty close to our heads. Everytime it would come swooping by we would scream and then duck. After a while we got use to it and it didn't freak us out as bad.

Needless to say we got the bat out with out any harm to it or ourselves. We directed toward the basement door and then ushered it out. He was actually kind of cute. I was glad that it was a bat rather than a mouse because it would have been a lot harder to get rid of a mouse!

So I thought that that would be enough of an adventure for awhile but then last night happened. I was sitting in our living room knitting while Clif went outside to let our dog Chester out and give him some water. I noticed a skunky smell, but that is normal around here. We are skunk territory. The smell was normal until Clif came in. Apparently our dog ran into a skunk. We don't know if he got a hold of it or what (it was about 9pm) but everything was stinky. Clif didn't get sprayed directly, but the smell was very bad. The smell was completely different than that of a dead skunk on the road. It is a concentrated smell that lingers.

Somehow the skunk got stuck in Chester's doghouse and couldn't figure out how to get out. So he was spraying everywhere in the doghouse (I think the doghouse is going to the dump). The smell was everywhere. All through our house, outside, our cars even smelled like it this morning.

A cool thing happened in the midst of this smelly experience. We haven't had rain for weeks and the air here has been stale, stagnant, and hot. So while I was in bed (trying to sleep in spite of the stinch) I talked to God and let him know that it would be real nice to have some rain. Well, a little while later the wind started to blow really hard and it did rain! The smell started to wash away. What a blessing.

Well, Chester got a bath today (and so did I). I read that tomato juice baths are just a myth so I used a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and laundry detergent. I did a pretty good job. The smell lingers, but its not nearly as bad. Chester also got a new house and a nice new camoflauge collar.

Well, that is all of my kritter stories for now. I hope that will be it for a long time. I'm tired and I feel like I stink (the smell lingers in your nose). Till next time...

Here it Goes

So I figured it was about time to start my own blog. I've tried another site for awhile (not mentioning any names) but I thought I would try blogging this way. Hopefully it will be easier for friends and family to keep up with us. Another reason that I want to blog is that I have a new computer that I like to use. I'll see how this goes.

Summer is quickly winding down. It's amazing how time flies by. It seems like Adam just got out of school. Now we only have about a week before he starts 3rd grade. Can you believe it? It's amazing how fast kids grow. I'm looking forward to some quiet time, but I have enjoyed being with him this summer.

For vacation we went to the Ashboro Zoo which was a lot of fun. But our big vacation was a trip to Busch Gardens, Water Country, and Jamestown. I'll try to post some pictures if I can figure out how to :) We had a lot of fun. I think Adam enjoyed Water Country the most. I think he is part fish.

Well, I'm going to go figure out what I need to do next to keep this going.
